Self-Reflection

Sparking Curiosity, a project that I never thought I would enjoyed as much as I do.

As a university degree level student, Social Engagement is a course that you have to take during your university life, and just as any other university student, I took this course and hence marks the beginning of a wonderful journey

At the beginning of the project, everything seems vague and blurry as our motive and vision was not clear. Luckily, we have our beloved instructor Dr. Azzuliani Binti Supangat that helped and guided us. She gave us the meaningful idea to teach the standard 5 students in SK Kampong Endah in Banting. We are both happy and worried because we are given this wonderful chance to do something this meaningful and at the same time we felt the responsibility as a university student too.

The preparation was a challenging one, at first we need to collect enough money in order to carry out this project. So, we organized car-washing activities at Faculty of "Academic Pengajian Islam" in University Malaya to earn money for our project. I am so touched that everyone of us showed up and helped each other out during the car-washing activities. And to make the situation tougher, we have to wake up early in the morning and the place was full of mosquitoes. But we still manage to pull it off and collected around RM 400.

As a multimedia member, I designed the T-shirt with my teammate Giselle as what my friend requested and printed it out in time. Although the T-shirt wasn't really a good one, but I felt satisfied and happy when each and everyone of us wore it during the photographing session

During the event, "Sparking Curiosity", I encountered many students that are so talented and smart. So dealing with them makes me learn something new and important. I was in charged of a group with my teammate Naim Najmi. He and I worked hard to get along with the students and ensure them enjoyed the program as much as they could.

After that, we carried out a total of 7 experiments that were based on their text book syllabus. Although the experiments may look simple to us, but the theories behind those science experiments were what we aimed for, to give a better idea to the students by letting them to conduct their own experiments. This occasion opens up so many avenue for the students as they seldom have the chance to do so. The process of learning while doing is so essential to their studies in science.

I personally thinks that I have grown during this program and learned from the students as well, they taught me how to be a better mentor. And I have overcome the challenging part which was the clashing of my duties. This is because at the end of the event, I need to edit and produce a video that contains all the photos taken during the 3 days event, and that video will be played in front of all the teachers, VIPs and headmaster of SK Kampong Endah during closing ceremoy. But in the mean time, I have to practice my diabolo performance with Tee Leong Chun, also during closing ceremony. The clashing of duties was a tiring one, but somehow I still manage to pull that off and complete both tasks. So, I am happy that I manage to complete what I have given to accomplish.

After out event ends, even right now as I am finishing my self reflection, I always thinks, do we succeed? Do we achieved what we want at the end of the day? Well if you ask me, this project is and always will be one of my greatest memory and this alone will be enough for me. Not only I get to bond with my 18 other teammates, working with them was such a pleasure as we helped each other our, we learn and succeed together. Besides, our main objective is to enlighten the students with science, awe them with science and nurture the interest of science into their very essence. And I am pretty sure we have already achieved out objectives during the three days activities, to show them the possibilities they could be.

And I am glad to be here with all my members and our instructor Dr Azzu.
Thank you everyone!
